Privacy

VoteColorado has no accounts, no sign-up, no ads, and no cookies. We don't sell or share data about you. Here is everything the site does with information about your visit.

Visit counts

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count which pages people view, so we know what helps. It runs only on votecolorado.org, sets no cookies, and doesn't follow you to other sites.

What each page view records:

  • The page or view you opened, such as /towns/boulder/, /m/amendment-87, or /search/county/jefferson-county when you pick a search result
  • The site that linked you here, if any
  • Your country, worked out from your IP address, which isn't kept
  • Your browser, operating system, and device type (phone, tablet, or computer)
  • The time of the visit

What it doesn't record: your name, email, or IP address, what you type into the search box, or anything that identifies you. To count a visitor once per day, Vercel uses a hash of the request that it throws away after 24 hours, so we can't link your visits across days. We see only totals.

Town and county searches are matched in your browser. When you pick a result, we count which town or county it was, not what you typed.

If our own matching finds nothing, the words you typed (lowercased, up to 200 characters) are sent to our server, which asks Jev, an AI classifier from TypeSafe AI, which of our pages fits. Jev can only pick from a fixed list of our pages. We don't save your search or tie it to you, though it can show up briefly in the host's server logs (below). Our server holds your IP address in memory for about a minute to stop abuse, and answers are cached by search text so the same search isn't sent twice. TypeSafe handles the text under its own terms, so please don't type personal details into the search box.

What stays in your browser

If you pick a town, the site remembers it in your browser's local storage so it opens there next time. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes it. If you tap "Use my location," your browser asks you first, and the location is matched to your county and town on your device only. A ZIP code you type is looked up the same way. Neither is sent to us or stored.

Hosting and other sites

The site runs on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes your IP address to deliver pages and keeps short-lived server logs for security and debugging. Fonts are served from our own site, so loading a page doesn't contact Google or other third parties. Links to official sites such as GoVoteColorado.gov, county clerks, and Capitol Lens take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

Email

If you email hello@votecolorado.org or corrections@votecolorado.org, we use your address only to reply and, for corrections, to fix the error you report. We don't add you to any list.
